As you are now fully aware, we had to initially postpone the NL18 Mile Hike on Saturday 2nd February 2019 due to harsh weather conditions, which included ice and snow with an Amber Weather Warning. The main problem in these conditions for the event had been in providing the highest level of support to our participants, support that we pride ourselves on as an Event Team and the infrastructure needed to support the event. Postponing the event was a decision made after extensive consideration and risk assessment. It was certainly not a decision made lightly. The Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts joined members of Girl Guiding and people from North Leigh to commemorate 100 years since the end of World War One, as well as remember everyone who hasÂ served our country.Â
Although the weather could have been better, Group Day this year was great fun!

The North Leigh 18 Mile Hike, now in its 4th year was a great success again, with over 300 participants taking place on the day in very wet and windy weather! The mud was think and the puddles deep as Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorer Scouts walked in their Section Teams or in family teams over either an 8 mile or 18 mile figure of eight route on Saturday 3rd February 2018. The teams were all supported on the day by a huge amount of helpers that either drove minibuses, manned Checkpoints, organised car parking, catered for the event, emergency response team, First Aid, cleaning, administration, radio communications and lots lots more. Over 40 helpers in total support the participants in the hike to make sure that they are safe throughout the day. The 1st North Leigh Scout Group got together on Sunday 11th June and hosted a duck race, our main fundraising event of the year.

Scouting worldwide continues to be as popular as ever. We are experiencing this trend here at 1st North Leigh Scout Group and we need more volunteers in all types of roles within our Group. Adult and Young Leader Volunteers are essential to the continuing success and day to day running of the Group.
1st North Leigh Scout Group attended the remembrance Day Service this year at St.Mary Church in North Leigh by firstly Parading at Cuckamus Green in the village along with the guides and Brownies before marching through the village to the church. Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Guides and Brownies all attended along with family and friends to remember those who had fought for us in the First and Second World Wars and all subsequent Wars since.
Congratulations to the ‘Lightning Vipers’ Patrol for winning CPCW for North Leigh scout groupÂ for a second time in the space of two years with anotherÂ Patrol wining it last year.
